Talisman- Bicycle Company (8)
“Talisman bike gear is made for the passionate cyclist looking for precision and clean, minimal style. When diving into the initial branding concepts I knew I wanted to reflect the idea of precision in the logo and through the overall graphics on the packaging. I really wanted to push away from the overly busy graphical styles of other professional bike gear brands so I developed an identity that would revolve completely around the build of simple shapes and one color printing. The fluid movement of the arrow wrapping around the classic diamond structure of the logo brings in a variety of elements of every bike: the classic diamond frame, the spokes of the wheels, the fluidity of the arrow compared to the gliding movement of the bike itself. I then wanted to develop a way to expand the brand so that users could represent their new gear with pride. This brought on the concept of badges or talisman, reflecting the meaning of the brand name. These badges would be collectables within the packages of Talisman gear, each with a different power element on it, from the “Passion” the user has for cycling to the “Precision” needed to ride through heavy traffic. Talisman portrays the power and stability that the hardcore cyclist hunts for.” This student project was published in www.lovelypackage.com -
Calle- Street soccer shoes (8)
“Calle, in Spanish, means “Street.” This brand of slip-on street soccer shoes is the first of its kind. My goal for the redesign of this brands packaging was to capture its unique feel as a sleek street shoe, while still incorporating the power and precision of soccer. The metropolis illustration that spans across most of the package elements is meant to represent any city, from the feel of the busy downtown skyline to the sprawl of suburbia. The structure is simple, made of one small piece of cardboard, wrapped in a bright flag for vivid visual appeal, and strapped tight with rubber clamps. The unconventional build of the package makes the experience of opening the box something the customer won’t soon forget, especially once they feast their eyes on monstrous illustration strewn across the flag. This flag can be pinned up in a room or even hung on a fence to make the perfect target for a street soccer goal. The only piece of post-consumer waste that comes from this package is the small cardboard structure, which can simply be recycled. Refine your skills in the street.” This student project was published in www.lovelypackage.com -
Heritage Bourbon (6)
“Heritage is a brand of single barrel bourbon whiskey who’s packaging reflects the age-old process of true whiskey making. The creation of Heritage Single Barrel Bourbon Whiskey starts out with natural spring water and American born corn that is placed in a copper still to be distilled. From there its placed in charred oak barrels to age and gain color and flavor from the wood. Once the barrels have aged, the Bourbon whiskey is hand bottled and packaged for the consumer’s drinking pleasure. Student Project from my Package Design class. Jeffery Campbell Shoes (8)
"This shoe box design was created for Jeffrey Campbell Shoes. I selected Jeffrey Campbell because I love the unique, creative, bold colors, styles and design. The brand is all about a tremendous love for shoes by those with a creative sense of style. I wanted to show off their unique, artistic style by creating watercolor and hand-drawn illustrations. This is a box that would be in a boutique for when you want to give (or receive) Jeffrey Campbell shoes as a gift! I designed it this way because shoes are a gift that you buy yourself and it should feel like opening a present. I also added a scratch-off element under the lid to provide an interactive experience. When you scratch it off, it reveals a fun quote about shoes. I utilized the Jeffrey Campbell signature in combination with my illustration work to create a bright, memorable, and iconic box design." Five Ten Rock Climbing Shoe Box (6)
Five Ten is one of the top brands of climbing shoes. "My goal was to design a shoebox that would be a better user experience and would better reflect the brand. There is a lot of photography on Five Ten’s website. I wanted to take this idea and apply it to the box design. The photography incorporates both outdoor and indoor climbing, so no one is left out. The pull out drawer function also gives a fresh take on the typical shoebox. Leave No Trace policies are also something I wanted to push in this project. Leave No Trace gives tips on how to clean up after your climbing day and not to disrupt or litter the environment. This is the reason why there are no people climbing on the box." MadMen Pale Ale (5)
"This black on black packaging design reflects mood of the upscale consumer wanting to sit back and have a premium beverage at a business meeting or for drinks after work. The brand was strongly influenced by Don Draper and the cast of Mad Men on AMC and their culture of drinks during and around their work lives. This packaging design contains [4] 16 ounce beer bottles and uses a QR code at the bottom of the package to link directly to AMC's Cocktail Culture phone application. This product is intended to stand out on the shelf to the business class and reflects everything a manly beer should be, with the black on black adding class and appeal." Timberland Shoebox redesign (9)
"I first redesigned the logo to look more organic to better represent the earth friendly footwear. I then created and designed a shoebox that folds flat and compacts for easy storage and reusability, encouraging the consumer to reuse the box for other purposes. This shoebox uses 100% recyclable materials and sustainable adhesives. I also included a biodegradable handle to reduce the use of bags. The handle also acts as a latching system, so when carried the product does not fall out. The tags included on the shoe are to better explain the reusability of the box, as well as Timberland’s® beliefs." Student Project from my Package Design class. published in www.thedieline.com -
Vans shoebox design (6)
"With my packaging for Vans shoes I wanted to pay homage to vans roots in the late sixties and early seventies, in the California skate and surf scene. I chose extremely contrasting colors, which I felt were reminiscent of the period I was aiming to speak to. The graphics covering the package are intended to reinforce Van's brand image, as well was act as something that members of the skateboarding / surfing community can connect and identify with. I chose to use a non traditional shoebox shape, because I saw it fitting, as Vans has always been an alternative shoe brand, for alternative athletes. The new box design uses less cardboard than regular shoeboxes, and is size flexible, in that by varying the way the shoes overlap it can house most shoe sizes without needing alterations. Find Organic Vodka (5)
"For my package design class we were assigned a project to redesign an existing product or construct a design for a product we created. I chose to create a brand of organic vodka, which I named “Find”. We were to create 3 different kinds or versions of our product. So I chose to do unflavored or original vodka as well as two fruit flavored packaging concepts. The label made of canvas on which I screen-printed the brand logo. The caps are made of wood, which I left unstained to capture the organic nature of the product." Designed by Kayla Langhans.

Jomon Rice (2)
Featured in GRAPHIS New Talent Design 2006-07. The latest edition in the Graphis series, a premier international forum for students.
The Jomon Culture is said to be one of the most AFFLUENT FORAGER cultures to ever exist in Japan.
Japanese rice is short grain rice that becomes sticky when cooked. Most rice is sold as hakumai ("white rice"), with the outer portion of the grains (nuka) polished away. Unpolished rice (gemmai) is considered less delicious by most people, but its popularity has been increasing recently because gemmai is more nutritious and healthier than hakumai. Mex Premium Taquila (2)
Featured in GRAPHIS New Talent Design 2006-07. The latest edition in the Graphis series, a premier international forum for students.
The Mexican government strictly regulates the making of tequilas. There are four kinds of tequila: Silver, Gold, Aged and Extra-Aged. The two most popular forms of tequila are Silver and Gold. Silver tequila is the original drink, a strong, pure distillation of the heart of the agave plant. Gold tequila is the same as Silver tequila, but it is typically colored and flavored, most often with caramel.
To be sure you are buying real tequila, you should look at the label for the NOM (Standard Official Mexican Norm) and CRT (Tequila Regulator Council) seals, as well as the category and form of the tequila. Student Project from my Package Design class. -
